uglyducklingsalwaysblossom-deac asked: In 'A Scandal in Belgravia' John has a go at Irene for not telling Sherlock he's dead, is this a significant point because it reflects how he's going to react in series three, or am i just overthinking things?
I don’t think you’re necessarily overthinking things. But I don’t know if it’s any indication of how John will react when he finds out Sherlock’s alive, either.
The Sherlock fandom seems to be in general agreement that John should punch Sherlock when he turns up again.
In the original stories, Watson’s reaction to seeing Holmes alive was to faint for the first and only time in his life. After that, he’s basically right back to his usual Watsony sidekick self.
I feel like we might get something that’s somewhere between those two extremes. On the one hand, there is something in the fundamental nature of Watsons that requires them to perpetually put up with Holmes’ crap and like it. On the other hand, our version of John has no problem speaking up when Sherlock’s gone too far.
Maybe someone can work out a good faint/punch combo?
