The Final Problem

On set that day were: Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Rupert Graves, Vinette Robinson, Jonathan Aris. Also, Mark Gatiss in his producer role.

There were various other actors, such as the extra playing the kidnapper and the child playing Max Bruhl, for a start. It was a great atmosphere and very exciting to see the show alive in front of me. I am very thankful for being able to be there that day.

OKAY, PEOPLE. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. THIS IS ACTUAL NEW REICHENBACH INFORMATION.

1) I’ll be the very first to say it: Now that I get to see the actor who played the kidnapper from another angle and on level ground with other humans, I don’t think he’s the same guy as our pink-shirted cop.

2) So it seems we do indeed have a fourth man. (Unless Sherlock’s imaginings were inaccurate for the first time we’ve seen so far. I for one am not eager to go down that road, but then when I think about how Hartswood chose to edit that part out of the episode for the PBS airing it makes me want to cry because it so obviously matters except maybe it doesn’t matter at all. OW, MY BRAIN.)

3) Does that mean the pink-shirted cop was just a random extra after all? No. He was still the one who was going to shoot Lestrade. That’s not nothing. So all of the talking to Sally and acting suspicious at the sweet factory still screams “mole.” (In my opinion. So we’re clear, all of this is always in my opinion.) Also, they left every scrap of him in the PBS edit.

4) The presence of a fourth man is really, really pushing me in the direction of some nagging Priory School thoughts I’ve had for a long time. You’ve heard me mention that story in connection with the Bruhl kidnapping before, but I was really hesitant to go there because I was afraid I might be over-complicating things that were complicated enough already. Now maybe it might be time to start going there? I CAN’T DECIDE. asjgfaskjwell I guess now I have motivation to get on a planned post about the kidnapping I’ve been lazy about writing since up until now, no new data = no rush.

5) The OP says the child playing Max Bruhl (Edward Holtom) was on set that day. Unless they were mistaken about that, the question is WHY? Max wasn’t in the St. Aldate’s footage we saw in the episode. (Unless I’m overlooking a fraction of a second with him somewhere?) Was there deleted footage OR does this mean we can expect to revisit the kidnapping and see more in the next episode? And I’ve got to say I really, really hope we’re going to revisit the kidnapping because that mystery has interested me more than the fall for a while now, but the poor baby gets ignored.

So here you go, people who ask me if I’ll be dreadfully upset if one of my theories is wrong: LOL, no. I’ll help to blow it up myself, because I believe in using the available data. THIS IS EXCITING TO ME. I AM DOING THE DATA DANCE.
